Caloian is a rain or draught ritual that is celebrated on the third Tuesday after Ortodox Easter, during the time of severe drought or when there is too much rain.

Young girls make clay dolls, ornated with colorful ribbons, flowers and red egg shells, named either "Father of the Sun" or the "Mother of the Rain", depending on the purpose of the ritual.

This doll is buried with the traditional burial and unearthed on the third day ,It is broken into pieces and thrown into lakes, rivers and ponds or hidden into the fields to bring a good harvest.
